Photography Tip of the Day: Is there more to the rule of thirds than meets the eye?

Some say that the rule of thirds is based on the more complex "golden ratio" (you know, the one that looks like a shell, based on the Fibonacci sequence?)

If you want to really take your composition to the next level, try overlaying the golden ratio instead of the basic rule of thirds when composing your images.

The image I found below is from www.exposureguide.com (thank you!) and shows the three ways the golden ratio can be applied to photography.

And if you're interested in learning a bit more, read this: http://www.photographyicon.com/goldenratio/

Last - did you know you can actually turn this on in Lightroom, instead of the basic crop overlay you see? Just hit the letter "O" when the crop overlay is active! WOWEE COOL!

SO, if you like, show me an image of your that follows the golden rule...I bet you have some that follow it, but not the rule of thirds...and they actually look BETTER!! - Kelly

Širokoúhlé objektivy zvětšují odstup různě vzdálených předmětů v dáli a teleobjektivy naopak zmenšují odstup různě vzdálených předmětů v dáli (např. hlavní objekt od pozadí).
o       Odstup od hlavního motivu, např. rozostřením pozadí či popředí
·        Perspektiva
Širokoúhlé objektivy zvýrazňují perspektivu a teleobjektivy naopak zmenšují perspektivu.
o       Ptačí pohled
o       Nadhled
o       Pohled z úrovně očí
o       Podhled z žabí perspektivy
o       Průhled
·        Osvětlení
Nejpůsobivější prvek kompozice.
o       Šikmé světlo – dlouhé stíny ráno a večer, velmi působivé
o       Protisvětlo – velmi působivé
o       Tmavé místa v popředí zdůrazňující plasticitu
o       Střídání světla a stínů
·        Tonální (barevné)
o       Teplé barvy v předu a studené barvy vzadu
o       Kontrast
o       Barevné sladění
o       Monochromatické

zdroj + z obavy aby nahodou tento úžasny kompoziční přehled nezmizel jsem se ho odvážil zkopirovat (zálohovat)

Composition The Zone System

Composition The Zone System

...The Zone System is an 11-step gradation of reality, from pure black to pure white, and each step equates to one full f-stop...

Alternatively, we can do as Ansel Adams suggests: “Expose for the shadows and develop for the highlights”. It has a significantly greater SBR than the camera can record. Key to this shot are the midtones, so some compromise comes into play. I have retained some shadow and some highlight detail, but not all...
